The Hotel: A simple, stylish, and secluded beach hotel on the coast of Kenya.
Che Shale is a small, family-run beach hotel located just 25 km north of Malindi. It’s far enough from crowded tourist spots but still easily accessible by car – take off your shoes and enjoy endless, peaceful sandy beaches surrounded by coconut palms and local vegetation. With the perfect blend of relaxed luxury and natural beauty, Che Shale has been one of Kenya’s best-kept secrets for over 40 years.
The charm and tranquility of nature are reflected in 9 uniquely designed “Castaway Chic” bandas (cottages), which combine relaxed style with attention to detail. Fresh seafood right on the beach, an on-site crab farm, and a great selection of activities – kitesurfing, big-game fishing, dhow sailing, kayaking, and much more – ensure you can either be fully active or completely relaxed.
Uncomplicated and peaceful – Che Shale is sure to enchant you.
As the only kitesurfing station on the beach, this spot is rarely crowded, with an average of no more than 15 kitesurfers on the water at the same time. This makes it the perfect place for beginners or those looking to progress in the sport. The spot is right at your doorstep, so you can roll out of bed and jump straight onto your board. Experience a unique combination of a wide, untouched beach, reliable wind, and a variety of kitesurfing conditions, from flat water to exciting wave riding.
The Kaskazi season runs from mid-December to mid-April, with wind picking up in the afternoon, blowing from the northeast, and averaging 15 to 20 knots.
If there's no wind for a day or two, there are still plenty of other activities you can enjoy! Che Shale offers a variety of options to spend your time:
So there's plenty to do, even if the wind takes a break!
